LOAT-V Nicholas Cheng

Finally, it's here! Sorry that is abit late as I couldn't get hold of the internet last night. First ever LOAT-V and more to come.

A 20-years-old Communication Taylor's student, Nicholas Cheng plays Wai Chong in the new Malaysian produced disney channel series Waktu Rehat. He plays a strict head prefect in the fictional school S.M Jalan Mas. With 10 other highly relatable characters, this 5 minutes series is a school sitcom featuring an ensemble of Malaysian lower secondary school kids who talks about their lives while hanging out in a hallway during breaks.

Let's see what he thinks about Taylor's as a Taylorian.

Cool stuffs that Taylor's do

Hey all! I am missing blogging a lot but that is because I was working on something special for LOAT. I will tell you at the end of this post.

At the same time, things are going abit slow here because everyone is busy with assignments (maybe is just me) and in a holiday mood as mid term break is coming! There are many event going around but I guess I just didn't have time to cover them as I am now joining the 'A cappella' group by the Taylor's Symphony Band (TSB). Seriously, TSB is huge! I got the honour to emcee their fundraising concert last year and yeah, they sound SUPERB!

Emcee partner Jerome
He is really really tall!

Taylor's Symphony Band

So, I have been asked about the mixology club recently and I found out that their practice is no longer on Thursday evening at 5pm but changed to Monday evening at 5pm. However, it is still advisable to check with the Sport Center at Block B Level 1.

Their club might be small but every single time they practice, there will be many people around watching.
It is pretty cool.

One random day, I was just walking to the cafeteria for lunch and guess what I saw??!

A class of Architecture students going outdoor to draw and get inspirations! Apparently, it is one of their class time, I am guessing is tutorials. Taylor's lecturer are actually very outgoing if you really get to know them. They will teach you about the real world and making sure that you do not just excel academically but also prepared for the working world.

In Taylor's, you don't just get stuck within an air-cond room (sure, it is tempting as the weather is really hot outside. Trust me, once you've tried our college's air conditioning, you will be glad of the sun once in a while.) It is so much more fun to explore outside rather than having your drawing inside.

Next Random fact. CLAMPING ZONE!!!
Yes, since the rule started, I have been seeing people's car getting clamp! No joke. That is why park follow according to the line provided. I am not sure what is the consequences after getting clamp and the clamp note but I am guessing is a fine. I shall try getting clamp so I know how it feels, XD! No way!

Coming to the end of the post, be prepared for LOAT's first ever video TV. I will be posting it later tonight. First LOAT-V will be an interview on a Taylorian and cast of a new disney channel series, Waktu Rehat.

Yes, do not say anything, I know I am SHORT!

Mirror Mirror on the wall

I know I'm fair but nobody care.

Today's post will be about Mirrors Fashion and Glamour magazine coming to Taylor's for a Glamour Girl Search! Yes, you are right, a girl like me will just join and try my luck for the fun of it. It is amazing because I get to go for free full makeover from hair to makeup and nails! For this search, you only need to do a simple photoshoot and videoshoot describing your style. Taylor's was their first destination for this roadshow and according to their blog/web, the responds were fantastic. Probably because they have goodies bags too. haha. Check out their trip to Taylor's here! I won't be explaining much in this post as I believe pictures below pretty much explains it all. By the way, some pictures taken from their web/blog.

Taylor's 2nd Learning Resources Fair 2010

Say Hello to my new friend,

Rob-Otman

Serene and I decorated him with some modern punk look. He is a special friend from LASC (Learning & Academic Skills Centre) or Learning centre in Taylor's University college. His purpose is to welcome all students that walk into the LASC with a big smile, un-proportionate eyes and fido-dido hair. However, on the 6 August 2010, Rob-Otman had a special task to lead the crowd in to the Lecture Theater 3 as LASC had organized an event called the 2nd Learning Resource Fair 2010.

Engaging the Learner in You!

Entrance goodie
Pen, survey form, LASC flyer, event agenda and lucky draw ticket.

The LASC team in Taylor's offers a range of learning and academic skills resources to support students in making the most experience out of university life. LASC can help students sharpen their learning skills. We have advisers that can help harness student's academic potential to reach their goals. Best of all, consultations are free and we have huge range of references and resources. All you got to do is step into their office at Block C, level 2 (opposite library) and sign up! They are open from Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm.

This fair is similar to an educational fair but with a twist. One of the famous attraction other than lucky draw is the GeneCode Dermatoglyphics.

What they do is that they take you thumb print/ finger prints (Similar way when you do you ic) then through the shape of prints, apparently, then can determine an individual’s innate characteristics (which includes personalities and performances). Additionally, it reveals the innate learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. Thus, the discovery of your genes is by studying your of fingerprint of better known as dermatoglyphics. However, do be careful as there are some practitioner out there misused dermatoglyphics and conduct fortune-telling instead of proper analysis! *I did some research on this, I don't just simply blah about it*

I tried it out but did not complete the process as I was cut half way through to work. haha, yes I was helping out again for the event. Anyway, this is not some cha-pa-lang event okay. We have opening ceremony.

The Man whom speak like a wise

Ridiculous me holding one side of the ribbon

And serene working hard to make the scissors plate look nice.

So it is an OFFICIAL EVENT! and look at the amount of people!

Haha, fine. It was pack probably for the first hour. The rest of the day, we helpers have to push people in the LT3. Other than the GeneCode, we have booth like:

 Eco stationary by O'Bon.
I bought pencils made from newspapers and a file that is in support of WWF. I really wanted the notebook made from bamboo to add to my collection but I was out of cash. Amazing stuff!

Research database.
 Student's portfolio.
This is particularly Foundation in Science. We also have Hospitality and Tourism, Architecture and etc.

Another favourite of mine, I love this like seriously, I was literally standing there playing with it for at least 15 minutes. Drawing and writing on the board like a 5 year old kid.

TADAAAAAA............

 A WHITEBOARD???
LAME..........
NOT!!!
When it's empty, you might think that it is just a white board with connected projector and speakers. Even that I thought it was quite amazing already but wait, that's not it. It is a gadget functions just like Ipad that connects to the laptop. You can move things with your fingers and writes like a whiteboard! Cool teaching gadget right!

As I said, I had my fun! Oh yeah, this genius device is by Ep-tec.

Random pictures:

Cute bears right, everyone wants a piece of that bear!

I bump into two of my uber-awesome lectures.

 Final picture
Me, the bear and Rob-Otman.

Okie! That's all for now! What a fun tiring day I had.

Yeah more Books for us to bring home! + ECO Bazaar!

Do you have those times where there are so many books from the library that you would like to borrow but you can't because the limit is only 5 books per student?
Are you the type where you can't study in the library and you need to borrow more than 5 books to bring home so that you can study?
or you have never ever borrowed a book from your campus library?! (XD I have friend like this, ok.)

NO FEAR YOUR PROBLEMS ARE CLEAR
Thanks to the library management team, we, the Taylor's student are now allowed to borrow 10 books! That is AMAZING! (well, at least for people like me) Print-screen of the announcement below:

I know is small so I shall quote for you:
"The Library is pleased to announce that with immediate effect borrowing privileges for ALL students have been increased by 5 items! Pre-university and undergraduates can now borrow 10 items and Masters and PhD Students can borrow up to 15 items!"

I like borrowing books from the library. No, is not a joke, I really do. WHY? First of all, every semester, we have to pay a miscellaneous fee which includes library fee, computer fee and etc. Duh, since we paid for it, why not make full use of it! Even now, I am using Taylor's computer to write this blog. Besides, if you need to print anything, you can straight send to the Taylor's printer/photostat machine. Secondly, I am the freckle minded type. I have problems choosing what books do I want to borrow and most of the time my choice of books will exceed 5, to me, every book seems nice and useful for my assignments. Though, many times I fail to use every book that I borrowed. :( I am such a typical lazy student. Thirdly, most of the books useful for assignments or even just for leisure reading are really expensive to be purchase. Some books can cost up to few hundred ringgit and being the stingy me, no way I will spend that amount for a book just for one time usage. Don't WASTE MONEY, borrow from the library!

Talking about saving money, how about saving the planet? Truth out! I am not going to lie, I am not an Eco freak as I still do prefer using plastic bags instead of shopping bags when shopping but I do re-used plastic at home. Also, I do support saving water, planting a tree, stop open burning and littering and etc because those are just bad for the environment! So, I am considered still quite eco-friendly.

As you can see, they have some pre-loved fashionable items. That means more shopping for me! Yes, I did my part today, I brought some old spoiled mouse and camera to the campaign, also, I bought few items from the bazaar as a contribution. I am proud that Taylor's is trying to encourage the students to go green. So if you have any items that you don't want anymore, please do bring and drop it off at the Taylor's lakeside MPH. If not, you can always just drop by to check out the bazaar!

Captain V (Vitagen) to the rescue!

Away from the topic for a while, do you remember the tents that I said before at the carpark area?

Yes, it has now become the new drop off location and I guess Taylor's kind of partially fulfilled most of the students request of having a shade for the pedestrian pathway. Well, the tents are specially for the student to walk under to avoid either sun or rain. I said partially because, pls see pictures below:

It is not fully covered until the other side of the parking area over the lake. It is only at the drop off area! Sigh, oh well, something is better than nothing.

Alright back to the main purpose!
VITAGEN CAME TO TAYLOR's LAKESIDE!

It was amazing, they prepared so many fun games where you stand a chance to win vitagen or other merchandises! Their games not some cha-pa-lang games ok, very high-tech.

They brought Nintendo Wii to challenge Taylor's students but I am sure we beat all high scores! They even have slogan competition where we are to come up with new tagline and if we got selected, we would win cool prizes. Other than that, they came up with Limbo (which I played and won, hehe, *proud*) and the turn and drink game! Pictures below for the turn and drink game:

What is turn and drink game?

Participants are to spin 10 rounds. Example picture as below. (I demo k)

1, 2, 3, 4, 5.....

9, 10! RUN!

Run to the table with vitagen and start sucking the drink from the straw. Tips: faster the better la, duh.

Me against two guys. Our head was still dizzy after the spin.

The first to finish both vitagen, WINS! Winner got 2 packets of vitagen while others got 1 pack.

Simple right? NOT! Drinking Vitagen from a tiny straw was difficult like trying to do your assignments! Haha, it was fun anyway.

Oh oh, we have students doing the Makarena dance too! They are so sporting, amazing Taylor's international students.

Watch short video:

Yup, that's about all for this post! Thank you for all those who have been reading this blog. Do inform me if you would like me to cover any Taylor's event.

Thank You Vitagen!
