So even if you don't want to get any counselling or don't want to know what Taylor's have to offer for PostGraduate as your intention is purely just to sit and listen to his talk, you are more than just welcome. Please don't be shy to hoop in for the talk, is not obligated to go for counselling first. Then who knows, after the talk, walk around the campus if you haven't seen Taylor's Lakeside.

APSSA Student Leadership Conference 2012

I saw this recently in my student portal and it caught my attention because I saw the 'Fully Sponsored trip to Manila, Philippines'. Lols, don't judge, I'm sure you would take it to if you were given sponsored trip.

So I took some time to go through it and check out the requirements or what this is all about. If you can't read the print screen above, it talks about Taylor's University is looking for 4 deserving students leaders to represent the Uni in a conference call APSSA Student Leadership Conference 2012. *APSSA = Asia Pacific Student Services Association.

The conference will be held in De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines in July and the theme if Global Citizenship: Challenges, opportunities and responses. Of course, other than just seeing the free flight to Manila, right minded person will also go google on the Venue just to check out how the Uni looks like. So this is what I found:

I was totally won over by this image! Looks so British! I straight tried my luck and download the form.

It will be a good opportunity as if I am selected, I will be representing student leader ambassador of TU, meet people from various other countries, build network by increasing my cross cultural competency, understanding global citizenship and enhance my employability!

I was thinking since this is my last semester, why not?! If I don't get it then so be it. So I filled my form carefully:

If you read my short description as requested, I was going for "I know I'm confident but I don't want to overdo it and make people feel I'm so full of myself" kind of statements. HAHAHA! I guess is just a play of words, you should kind of write something that what you think they want to hear from you in order to increase your chances. Though, I have a feeling I might not get it just because I am a final semester student, they probably think how can I benefit or serve the Uni after this conference, so no point sending me. :P (is just my point of view)

Basically my point here is that why not go out of your comfort zone? In some ways, the reason why I participate in this was also because I felt that all these years as a Taylor's student, I'm always based in Malaysia or more specific, Klang Valley. Never once I go overseas or even outstation for a conference or workshop like this. I felt that because I didn't get myself a chance to expand myself that could help in expanding my social network and open up my eyes more about other countries and cultures.

I just want to say GET OUT & EXPLORE when you have the chance.

Hitz INVADED Taylor's Lakeside!

If you're a listener to Hitz.fm, you should already know about their BIG Hitz.fm BIRTHDAY INVASION happened at Bukit Jalil on the 25 February 2012.

Click this link to watch video:

Sadly, I wasn't in campus the day they INVADED Taylor's Lakeside and was generously giving out free passes to attend the Hitz Birthday Invasion. Many of us were still having our holidays and we only came back in March. The video shows their whole journey of giving the tickets out and making so many students happy!

There was about 150 Taylorians attended Hitz Birthday Invasion. I can already imagine how much screaming and cheering had been done. Literally, Taylor's FB is just so up to date, they posted it up on FB to make all the other kids jealous. :( that's terrible. Well, as long as they had fun. I guess it is one of the benefits to be in Campus all the time!

WongFu 4 Lyfe @ Taylor's University Lakeside Campus

So we heard a few tweet bird and bloggers boomed google search engine with keywords like "wongfu production live in Malaysia" and maybe some were kind enough to be more detail with the venue "taylor's lakeside campus".

Too bad I couldn't be there because one: not crazily in love with them but a fan of their work but still, that doesn't mean that I want to see them in person. Two: tickets was not within my budget. Three: I had other activities planned for that day.

In case you are wondering who are they and what am I talking about. Let me show you around with what other bloggers have said.

and sooooooo much more......
Hehe, Taylor's got so famous, all of the sudden for one day, everyone wants to be in the campus. My friends would come all the way from their hometown just to go to Uni for this. :) If wongfu are our lecturers, I'm sure they would attend class every single day.

Spartext Fair: Buy or sell second hand textbooks

To be serious, I honestly never heard of this before but it is such a great idea! You know how College or Uni text books can be very expensive to own a brand new copy and you all are probably anti-social beings for just comfortably staying within your batch of classmates without getting to know your seniors. The possibility to save money on that one semester only textbook is kinda impossible.

The Taylor's University Entrepreneur and Investment club bring you to a place where you can now buy or sell your second hand text books! Brilliant! They even try to make it interesting by naming it 'Spar-text'.

So head's up people, it's going to be a long stretch of book affairs, I will be there to spy on them. :)

Valentine Surprise

Hey peeps,

Just here to wish a little Happy Valentine's Day to all couples.
It may be commercial but it is still sweet to get a little something for each other.

Well, I did celebrated this special day with someone significant. Is it cheesy to say that we actually celebrated it in Uni? I mean, we go to the same place to study everyday, aren't we sick of seeing the place again?

Truth to be told, we did plan to have dinner somewhere else and he had a few places in mind for a picnic. The main reason why he finalized with Taylor's Lakeside was:

1. We paid to enjoy our Campus facilities, including the Lake.
2. Within the campus, we have an ensured security.
3. Tables and chairs provided. If rain, we can just run into shelter.

Hahaha! The reasons given might be funny but in some ways it is true. Allow me to explain:

1. We paid to enjoy our Campus facilities, including the Lake.
I totally agree to this. We should always make full use of what the Uni have to offer. When they provide a gym, use it! When they have workshops, attend it! When they have a 4 storey high library, borrow books from there! Make full use of the Uni's facilities as long as we don't vandalise it.

The lake is there for us to enjoy. The weather that night was great, it wasn't hot nor raining, it was also not too windy. It was just perfect to sit out and relax.

2. Within the campus, we have an ensured security.
It's true too! Never once through the entire dinner we felt unsaved in anyway. In many other parks or lakes, there were tons of stories or news of robbery. Of course, I'm sure you know in Malaysia, when a guy and a girl alone in an empty dark area, police will start asking 'duit kopi' from you.

Having our dinner in Taylor's Lakeside was a good idea, we have a lot of friendly security around doing their job taking care of the campus safety, even at night.

3. Tables and chairs provided. If rain, we can just run into shelter.
Hehe, of course, being a student there, we know the campus well enough to know where have what. What we did was drag the nearest table and chairs by the lake and place it closer to the lake. Of course, after the dinner, we put it back where it belongs. We lighted some candles to add some touch to the environment, even though most of the candles didn't stay lighted.

To our surprise, there was no flies buzzing around or unwanted mosquito. It was also pretty quiet, it was really easy for us talk. A really decent, calm night. Even if it had rain that night, I'm sure we would have found another suitable location to enjoy our dinner.

Just a simple meal, we ordered pizza and salad from Ecobar and buy one free one Chatime. Both from Syopz! We almost wanted to grab some desserts from Baskin Robins but stomach was too full. Everything is so near and easy. :) Plus, it is ensured of a parking spot for you!

So Campus is not that bad after all, huh? :D

Tour on Taylor's University Gym [before official launch]

I'm many of you have heard about the new Taylor's Gym opened yesterday. I couldn't resist not to drive all the way there even though I am still on break. Somehow, I felt like I just needed to show you a little tour for the place.

So I went over and I met 2 helpful trainers(Issac and Calvin) in some Q&A as well as a tour of the gym.

Uni Gym
Reception counter at Syopz, level 2
Enquires email: src@taylors.edu.my

Free trial starts from 8 Feb-31 March 2012
After that, a fee of Rm15 (per month i think, there will be package of one year) will be charged. *an online form might be the only way to register*
Only for Taylor's staff and students, no outsider is allowed even if you plan to pay for the gym.

Operating hours:
Monday-Fridays 7am-11pm
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 7am-7pm
Closed for selected public holidays: New Year, CNY, Raya, Deepavali & Christmas. *who knows, if we win football again, it will be close too....jk :)*

For personal trainers is about rm80 per session (TBC), there will be package coming as well.

One of the main reasons for me being there was to check if there is any towel facilities or soaps and stuff. ZERO. There is nothing, so be prepared to bring your own Towels and bathing things.

According to them, there will be an official launch next Thursday (16/2/2012) probably in the morning but I am unsure about the details.

Issac- answered my Questions

I am happy that they have lockers available *limited* *super limited*

But I am a bit disappointed that we have to pay Rm2 each time we open or forgot something from the lockers. I would prefer that they provided us lockers which we can probably rent for a day. They still could clear out the lockers daily. That would have been a better choice.

I like that it is huge, I do hope that they would put some benches and more lockers to fill this area.

Good amount of shower room and toilet. I wished that they will put some hooks in the showers so that no one would play a prank on us if we only hang our clothes on the hanger outside the door. I like how the shower door looks really like you are in Uni Gym and stuff (like in movies) but I placed my hands behind the door, I feel like it is tiny bit transparent for me. So warning, do not go too close to the door when your naked.

I loved the big mirrors along the taps though, there is no long, full body mirror anywhere! At least put it in the girl bathroom, we will appreciate it much!

Pool, common. The infinity pool idea didn't turned out really well.

Smart of them to put showers out near the pool :)

The stairs to the studio

Little more machines at the upper floor facing the parking lot and the exit of the school. So you can make your decision to go home when you see the amount of cars lining up to exit the school or to stalk on the girl/guy of your dreams car to see if he/she left campus. :p

The studio, I like it, quite spacious. With mirrors!
*So I've heard that the classes will all be free. Schedules will be out by next week*

Some equipments for studio sessions. Please place a big Rattan Hula-Hoop in this as well, it is very good for the abs area for girls :D

Calvin- Gave me a tour

 Kick boxing ring!

Apparently is not completed yet, so I will update again when it is officially launched.
