Facelift coming soon at Taylor's College Subang Jaya!

Taylor’s College Subang Jaya is currently undergoing a facelift from December 2011 to mid-2013 to provide our staff and students with a brighter and more spacious contemporary teaching and learning environment.To ensure that our students continue to have the best settings to realise their full potential, various learning spaces are being created and enhanced. 

The campus is a WIFI zone, enabling our students to study and learn not just in the formal and informal learning spaces, but also in the virtual learning space. In other words, learning can take place anywhere

Let's take a virtual tour of the Taylor's College Subang Jaya facelift and façade renovations that will be completed by 2012 (maybe end of 2012) with upgraded classrooms, new sports facilities, a modern external façade and a greener campus.

Life after CPU

CPU alumnus, Iksheeta Pramesh Shah shares about life as a second-year psychology and human resource management student at the University of Waterloo.

CPU definitely prepared me well for university life in Canada. Personally, I feel that CPU offers a wide variety of cultures, traditions and of course an extremely friendly environment! CPU is a sample of what the whole of Canada looks and feels like. With the 80% Canadian teacher ratio in Taylor’s College, it helped us understand what we will be encountering at university, before even getting here!

Life in Canada

The student life is amazing here in Canada. It is pretty safe to go out at night. The people are friendly and outgoing. The events and parties here are also huge fun. I got to network and meet a lot of people. The support of my friends here made it really easy for to me fit in. 

The Way Forward

I would like to pursue a Masters in Psychology or go to Law school.

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas....

Have you ever wonder what would life be like if you could spend Christmas in those ever wonderful house with roof-top, trees and streets covered in pure white snow? The thought of cuddling into your bed with a cup of hot cocoa with little marshmallows gives me the constant sigh of 'oh well, its a dream'. It would be great if I could just have a week off from everything and spend my holidays there!

U Residence

I believe I have not really talk about our Taylor's University Lakeside Campus Residential call the U Residence. If you are an international student and you don't know anyone here in Malaysia, the best choice you have to temporarily stay in a place would be staying within the campus. Just take the minimum contract while you get settle, learn about our transportation system and the people here.

The best thing about staying in campus while you get settle is no hassling on wondering how you are going to get to campus? and trust me, whenever there is super long break time, you will appreciate that your room is just walking distance away.

• Complete with bed, mattress, wardrobe, study table and chair
• Pantry on every floor with refrigerator, microwave and locked storage space
• Ample parking spaces for parents and students
• Waiting lounge area
• Wi-fi Internet access
• On site maintenance available for emergencies
• Baggage room to store luggage for odd hour check-ins and check-outs
• Male and female surau
• Access card system to control access to certain blocks
• 24-hour security surveillance system
• Trained live-in residence officers to help students, especially in the case of emergencies
• Residence Customer Service Centre to assist students and parents on all residence matters
• Housekeeping services for all common areas are provided
• Housekeeping for individual units can be made available upon request, based on separate arrangements
• Maintenance services to rectify any maintenance issues
• Located above the Boardwalk – 2 storeys of shops offering food and beverage, stationeries, banking, entertainment, health & fitness, laundry services, money exchange and a post office.
• Daily shuttle service transports students to the Subang Jaya campus, Sunway Pyramid and Setiajaya KTM station.

I understand sometimes parents would like to tag along for a few days to see Malaysia and of course, make sure that their children is well taken care here. What Taylor's Lakeside did was having Ruemz Hotel. I gotten a tour of the hotel and it look pretty good. It is comparable to other classy hotels out there. It would be easier if your parents stayed in Taylor's hotel. :)

Ruemz Hotel
Next to U Residences and Board Walk is a chic and modern boutique hotel known as the Ruemz Hotel. Available for public bookings, the hotel has a lobby and 7 floors with 80 single and twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms, and one connecting room on every floor for families. There is also a restaurant serving meals throughout the day and a 24-hour mini mart. Ruemz Hotel is operated by a group of full-time employees and selected students from the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts.

There are more accommodation choices if you really don't want to stay within campus. I get it, we are all young people, wanna stay out and have fun with no curfews. You can check this out.

CATCH BUDDING ENGINEERS’ INSPIRING INVENTIONS

AT TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY

Impressive showcase of engineering creativity and innovation to open doors to public for the first time

Held on 17and 18 December 2011, the fair is a prestigious platform for the students of Taylor’s University’s School of Engineering (SOE) to showcase their potential, both in the aspects of inventiveness and leadership.

As the pinnacle of their pursuit for engineering ingenuity, the fair requires students of SOE to apply all that they have learnt to conceive, design, implement and operate an engineering project of their own.

"The Engineering Fair provides a focal point, a ‘climax’ for all the efforts that the students have been dedicating for the entire semester,” said Taylor’s SOE Dean Dr Mushtak Al-Atabi.

“Students can also sharpen their communication skills when they present their ideas to a wide range of audience. Those in the organizing committee get a rare opportunity to manage a real-life multi-faceted project. Both of these communications and management skills are as invaluable to a successful engineer as creativity and knowledge,” he said.

The hands-on opportunities that the fair provides are in line with the project-based learning philosophy adopted by Taylor’s University’s School of Engineering.

Programmes at Taylor’s University are designed to be contemporary, students-centered and industry-relevant. With well-equipped labs and highly qualified staff, the University promises a conducive learning environment that encourages creativity and engagement.

Human Operated Submarine

Designing and building a one-man, single-propeller submarine powered by human mechanical energy that can travel up to speeds of 4.3 knots & submerge down to a depth of 12 feet. 

The Neuro Wheelchair!

This enables physically challenged people to control the movement of the wheelchair by using signals generated from the human brain.
Designed by: Semester 2 students of Taylor's Chemical, Electrical&Electronic and Mechanical Engineering degree programme.

The Racing team!
Taylor's Racing team is a University-level student race team that focuses on designing and building technologically advanced race cars to be raced in national and international student races.

To reduce the amount of cleaning a fan needs by designing it in such a way where the dust collected on the blades are minimised.

Ergonomic Chair
To build a chair which allows the user to work in sitting or lying position with the help of a extension arm that can be utilized to work at any position ergomonically with the user.

How to make Macaroon? Come learn from Taylor's

The Chef teaching is Chef Karam,, he is an amazing Dessert/Pastry Chef. I tried his cream puff once and I was hooked thinking that all Taylor's cream puff is as good as his handmade but unfortunately, sometimes their students creation are just not as good as his. :(

Macaroon is one of the expensive delight desserts and I feel sad that it is unfortunately one of my favourite desserts ever. Because it is so expensive, I carve for it. As well as because it so expensive, I tried to make my own. Turns out it became a 'Macoon' (my bf called it) instead of Macaroon. It didn't rise to have feet on them and it is not crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It literally just became crunchy like a cookie. LOLs.

I mean, to have one of the best Chef  teaching you on the art of making Macaroon and having everything provided to you in class. Why not give it a go? I mean even when you buy almond powder for this recipe, it will cost you a bom if you fail making them just like me. I think my almond powder is still laying somewhere in my cabinet. HAHAHAHA!

Best Architecture Campus gets to be in Movies?

It's true, not a lie. There were several times where Taylor's Lakeside Campus have been chosen to be a shooting location for many movies, advertisment and of course hehe, our own students assignments. 

This is one scene from Orange Telegu Movie shot at Lakeside Campus. 

There were some comments about the scene stating that "it was shot in Taylor's but the whole campus looks like it is crowded with only international students" *dang!* haha! I can assure you that on a usual day, you will see all the asian faces there. :D

The next few videos that I will be showing are videos produced my our very own Taylor's Students. They are not all necessarily taken in Lakeside but I do want to show you some of our talented young chaps. To know more about each video, do check them out on their youtube channel.

Taylor's University Reports another Breaking Year

If you missed Taylor's December Open Day

Tweet tweet, a little bird told me that you might just have missed Taylor's Open Day. I am here to give you a little sneak peak on what happened during Open day. :)

I managed to drop by Taylor's Subang Campus just to see how is everything going for them there.

If you don't already know, this is our Taylor's Subang Campus! It looks small in the picture but if I moved my camera on my left more, you would see more buildings for the students.

Inside of Subang's Multi purpose hall. They are quite packed here as I guess it's already after SPM and everyone is looking for a suitable course!

This table was awesome, haha, I mean if you actually round the table, there were 3 lecturers there counselling this mother and son. 

If you take a look on the next few pictures, everyone's table seemed to be messy!

This could easily be the cleanest, the power of Ipad! :D New way of counselling, no need prospectus anymore, just email them straight.

Prospectus lining up in place of parents and students to pick up on their choice of courses. Just a little FYI, Taylor's College Subang Campus and Hartamas are only having Pre-U courses like SAM, CPU, A-level and IB. For other courses, do check it out at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus.

Some display on what all these Pre-U students have done, hehe, apparently they are not just geeks, Not stereotyping but what I have heard from all my other Pre-U student friends, they all would tell me all the horror stories of studying all night and all-day classes. You must be some super person to go though Pre-U.

While I was walking out of the MPH, "I hear PEOPLE SINGING!" I was actually goose hunting for the source of music and finally looked down and I see Little Christmas People... :D

So I rushed down and met them halfway at the Lecture Theatre hallway taking some pictures for you all to add a little Christmas feeling to this post. :)

Of course, me being me, I love putting load of stuff on my youtube channel. So I just have to record this down :) Play it for some christmas jinggle.

This is just a random picture that I think is true. Begin it if you dream of doing something. :)

Also, many times during open day we have talks going on. Many times, some parents will stay back and talk to the lecturers or speakers on specific issues if they are not very sure about anything.

Of course as I said, they are all active bunch of people, so how can we forget about clubs and society booth.

Taylor's University LAKESIDE Campus

After wandering around Subang, I made my way to Lakeside Campus to 'kepo' (busybody) just to see what's up there. 

So if you are not interested in taking Pre-U subjects, you can always opt of Foundation programmes that leads you straight to Degree once completed. Foundation are great if you already know what you want to do. This will help you to be specific in what you will be learning without the need to take extra unnecessary subjects that have nothing to do with your choice of course.

Taylor's University have so many courses to offer.

Same thing again, xD messy table! Wahaha.

I was like "OMG I Want to DO that!" I always loved Taylor's Culinary Team as they are just one of the most amazing people with high level of creativity. They are the only ones that can play with food!

As I was there, I have to not miss their talks going on there as well. The topic for that session was on Law: "Wholistic" Legal Education- the way forward.

And of course, we are in Taylor's Lakeside very own Moots Court!
