World Class Scholarship Part 1

It's the time of the year again for the annual Taylor's World Class Scholarship event! I am excited because this is my first time attending one, though, I am not one of the profile who will be receiving the scholarship. Haihz... I was there as a student helper/ambassador. So, I only watch people receive them from various awesome and fabulous company. Not joking, I envy all World Class Scholar!

If you don't know what is World Class Scholarship, it is a scholarship given to Taylor's students in collaboration with leading world class multinationals. The best part about this scholarship is that it is not only as a financial aid but students will get the golden opportunity to train with global brands. It is a guaranteed practical training for them!

A few examples of companies are:

We also have BMW Group, Frost & Sullivan, Hilton Kuala Lumpur, IBM Malaysia, Leo Burnett, Weber Shandwick, Universal McCann and many more.

It is just kind of pointless for me to take pictures of the screen for all companies. haha. I think some uncle beside me must be thinking I am mad as I was taking pictures of the all the profile's slide just because my friends wants to know who are 21 best of the best students this year.

To know more about World Class? Check out Taylor's Website.

Moving on.....

I took a few shots of the rehearsal for fun

This is where the VVVIP sit.

If you do not know, this year 2010, World Class Scholarship was presented by YB Dato Seri Mohammed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education. The picture below is him giving the opening speech.

The hall was pretty full with parents, siblings, grandmothers, grandfathers, practically their whole related relatives come and support their son, daughter, sibling, grandchild..... getting this BIG AWARD!

Of course, we also have reporters and medias, Taylor's Deans and many other important people sitting in this memorable event.

All applicants for this scholarship are to attend a few rounds of interviews and essay writing. Thus, it is important to not only excel in your academics but an all-rounder seem to attract most of the interviewer. Most of the receiver are both well in their academics as well as non academics.

Few pictures of the recipients, (random, I don't know any of them)

For this shot, some of the recipient were asked to posed that way for some special photographers to take pictures. So I also went and Kepo(busybody) take picture. haha.

A final Group picture!

All guest are then invited for light refreshment in our very own restaurants. Tangerine, Thyme and Tarragon. I will be having a part two just for light refreshments or else this post will get too long. I am afraid readers will lose focus, I learned this on IPD(Issues in Publication and Design). Miss Jenny and Miss Ngim will be so proud of me! XD.

Seriously, the food was really good! So wait up for the World Class Scholarship Part 2- Light refreshments. I will be away to Johor in a few hours time, will be back tomorrow. Questions? Comment or leave it in the cbox.

I'm done!

YES! I am done for my 2nd semester! As what all my friends saying, those 3 months of semester 2 felt so long. Some shots of the day before assignment due.

Brian trying to teach them HTML, Amirul trying to seriously learn like he even got a clue what is going on, Aaron trying to look like he is asking questions but pose wrongly. haha

Laughing after trying to take some serious shots while Aaron still want to pose for the camera!

What a poser you guys! Hahaha, no, it is not some random shots of my friends doing assignments but we were doing assignments.
As you can see, we were in the library. Fact#1: Do you know Taylor's Lakeside Campus library is HUGE?? It has 4 floors! Can you imagine that everytime now when your friend say that they are in the library and you have to ask in return 'Which part of the library?'. So, as always, my friends and I will come up with some special lingo to reduce the goose hunting every now and then. The area that we were sitting in the picture is the 'Office Area'. I will take other pictures of other places like 'Airport Area' where it is the brigde in level 2 that connects to the 'Printing Area'. Also we have 'Maze Area' which is a studying area close to 'Office Area'.

Even though I am off for a month, I will still be around blogging about events and random stuffs that happen in Taylor's! Yes, will also still be here answering questions of yours.

2 June 2010,

Majolica Shiseido came to Taylor's for some tips and tricks for the girls on cosmetics and Make up! All my friends know I love all these events because usually you will leave with awesome goodies. For some reason, I was there early and lucky enough to be ask as a demo model. OF COURSE I SAY YES! Woohoo free make-over.

Before I go any further, this event was organized by Taylor's Lakeside Campus Model United Nations (TLCMUN) Club in obviously Taylor's University College. Specifically, this event is call 'Beauties Unified, the beauty workshops week'. It was a three day event started from the 1 June- 3 June. Check out their Blog for updates and other activities.

Her name is Purple. Yea, seriously PURPLE, it was on her namecard as well. She did the make-over for me.

People in charge collecting tickets.

Turn out not bad okay! Of course, these event interest all girls.

Her name is Jo (I think), She gives the talk. By the way, Clap hands..... Have to say that both of them are very nice ladies, very friendly.

I shall just skip through the tutorials and spare your time from listening to me mumbling on how to put on eyeshadow and all.
Beware!
Half-face monster coming through!

I think i should add half face monster with a huge zit on her forehead. Thank God they did not leave me with half face made on the streets. So I had the other side done while the girls have their Q&A session with Jo.

Tadaaaaaaaa.......

End Product

Thank you Majolica Shiseido for coming to Taylor's.

Attention all smokers.

no_smoking_sign.gif
(google image)
I'm sure all Taylor's student are aware that Lakeside is a non-smoking campus. I am personally happy with this policy but I understand that some smokers are a bit frustrated with the idea. I just got a source of the reason behind this smoke free campus rule. So here goes:

Taylor’s University College is committed to provide a healthy campus lifestyle that is conducive to both living and studying in a pleasant smoke-free campus environment.
This smoke-free policy seeks to:

§ Ensure a healthy campus environment and protect the current and future health of employees, students, visitors and industry partners.
§ Protect the right of non-smokers to breathe in air free from tobacco smoke.
§ Comply with legislation and law that imposed by Ministry of Health
(under the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations, 2004, Clause 11 : No person shall smoke in any area in an educational institution or a higher educational institution. Any person who contravenes subregulation (1) commits an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding ten thousand ringgit or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years)
First of all, I didn't know that the last factor existed! I shall put emphasis on the FINE + RM10 000 + or IMPRISONMENT FOR A TERM NOT EXCEEDING 2 YEARS.

Of course, Taylor's won't so bad send you straight away to jail. They are being kind with high hopes that everyone(Yes, this rule apply to all regardless of their status or business in the campus) will abide to the policy.

The million dollar question....What if you get caught? These will be the actions taken,
  • Any student who is found smoking within the campus compound would have their Student ID confiscated and forwarded to the Student Central.
  • First-time offender will meet with the Director of Student Experience for a verbal warning and their details will be kept in a database.
  • If a student repeats the offence, he/she will receive a warning letter from the Director of Student Experience and cc a copy to the parent/guardian and the Dean.
  • If a third offence is recorded, the student would be subject to disciplinary action with possible suspension from the programme.
Understood?

Taylor's Lakeside Campus

Yeah! 2010 is the year of all change for Taylor's as we move into our new Lakeside Campus! I'm so excited!

.........................-_-"

Okay, lame, it is super old news.

It is already JUNE! Happy 6th Month Anniversary to Taylor's Lakeside Campus! Picture above is just the designer's illustration of what Taylor's is going to be like.

Since it is a big news even though it's old news, this blog post will be about the Lakeside Campus. Also, other than the picture above, I will be stealing pictures from other Taylor's student/club blogs! Don't worry, I will credit you all.

Let's start our journey with the most basic necessity for student whom drives to college.
CAR PARK
No joke, there were a lot of complaints ever since the beginning, even myself!

Okay, this is something that I just found out, all car park (land that belong to Taylor's only) have been Tar! Oh finally, before this wearing heels was a pain if you are require to walk on rocks. I almost tripped a few times. There's a car park plan, check out here. If I am not mistaken, over the six months, Taylor's have been renting parking spaces for the students. So far, I have no complaints about the distance (except the heat) because is better than no parking and besides, it is still free! Maybe Taylor's should build like a covered pedestrian pathway or something for the students to avoid the rain and the sun. Honestly, I am not aware if there is anymore complaint on the parking issues. If you've heard anything, comment to share your views.

Photobucket
(Victor's Blog)

Don't you think it looks exactly alike to the illustration?!No comment because it's perfect.

Oh about the lake, if you are wondering, so far, no one fall into it YET.
DREAM ON PPL!
The kayak was only for open day.

It will be cool if we have these in campus. Maybe someone should start a watersport club!
The Multi Purpose Hall(MPH) is HUGE! Exams, orientation, events are usually held there.

FOOD!
Quote from students:

"Not enough variety of food"
Fortunately, there will be more food stalls coming once the commercial block is ready.
"Too expensive"
er..... So far, personally, yes, I agree to that too but it seems that there will be more cheaper stall around when the commercial block is ready. Though, I have to give credits for Taylor's to bring in Norwegian Sandwich because it is nice and healthy!
"No place to sit" & "HOT"
I give you a solution. TAPAU! and sit by the lake to eat. There got breeze.
It's too bad that I don't really have much pictures to share but I guess it would be best for you to see the campus yourself.
If there's anything, comment or msg at chatbox. I will be around, somewhere.
